Standard Punishment

The ITPA punishes persons who engage in the following with imprisonment of a minimum of three years, extendable up to seven years along with a fine which may extend to INR 2000:

• Procuring or attempting to procure a person, with or without their consent for prostitution
• Inducing a person to travel to a place for the purpose of prostitution
• Taking or attempting to take a person, or causing them to be taken from one place to another for carrying on or being brought up to carry on prostitution
• Causing or inducing a person to carry on prostitution

Enhanced Punishment

Against Will of Person

If any of the abovementioned acts are committed against the will of any person, the punishment of imprisonment shall extend to fourteen years.

Involving Children and Minors

If the person who has been subjected to an offence is:

• Child: Punishment may extend to life imprisonment
• Minor: Punishment may extend to fourteen years
