Who Can File a Complaint
A complaint regarding domestic violence can be filed by:
The aggrieved woman herself: The victim can directly file a complaint
A parent or any other relative: Family members of the aggrieved woman can file on her behalf
Recognized welfare organization or institution: NGOs and welfare organizations can file complaints on behalf of the victim
Authorities for Redressal
A complaint can be filed with any of the following authorities to seek relief:
A Police Officer: Local police station or any police officer
A Protection Officer: Officers appointed under the Act specifically for domestic violence cases
A Service Provider: Organizations registered to offer help to victims of domestic violence
Legal aid services: Free legal aid services and other community-based services
The District Magistrate or a court: Judicial magistrate or district magistrate
Multiple Avenues for Help
The law provides multiple authorities and persons who can file complaints, ensuring that victims have various options to seek help and that support is available even when the victim may be unable to approach authorities directly.
