Reporting Cyber Crimes

A victim of a cyber crime can file a complaint by contacting the nearest cyber crime cell or local police station. Complaints can also be filed anonymously through the official National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (https://cybercrime.gov.in).

Information Required for Specific Cyber Crimes

1. For Hacking/Data Breach:

To assist the investigation in a hacking case, the following information should be provided:

Server logs

A soft and hard copy of the defaced web page, if a website has been defaced

If data has been compromised, provide soft copies of both the original and the compromised data

Details of the access control mechanism (i.e., who had what kind of access to the compromised system)

A list of suspects, if any

Key Questions to Answer:

What has been compromised? Who might have compromised the system? When was the system compromised? Why might the system have been compromised? Where is the impact of the attack? How many systems have been compromised?

2. For Email Abuse (e.g., vulgar emails):

In cases of abusive emails, please provide:

The complete extended headers of the offending email (provide both a soft and hard copy)

Do not delete the offending email from your inbox

Save a copy of the offending email on your computer's hard drive
